#SDCAstory: Summer intership in PTV4 and PBS

by Patrick Jay Cope

Second semester has ended in St. Dominic College of Asia (SDCA) and it’s vacation time for all the students… except for ABCOMM third year students. The class is over but the learning is not because they will be having a summer internship program in Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS) and People’s Television 4 (PTV4) in Quezon City.

The summer internship will start on May 16, 2018. Though some of the students will postpone their summer vacation until June and some will not get the vacation, they are still excited with the learning they will get.

For ABCOMM, the summer internship program is always in Communication and Community Affairs Office (CCAO) in SDCA. But the Sir Romeo Gonzalvo Jr., program chair of their course, decided that his students would have the summer internship in PBS and PTV4. And even his students like the idea of getting an internship in those companies. “I believe that it would be helpful in my chosen career especially in terms of media and broadcasting, [and] I think that PTV4 will be an interesting and exciting journey for my internship”, Alyssa Dela Peña, an ABCOMM third year student.

If Alyssa wants to be in PTV4, her classmate Anna Doroliat likes the PBS more. “I can see that nowadays, some ABCOMM students tend to pursue more on TV field, I want to experience first the field of radio, with this I will be molded from first step to greatness”, Anna said.

And because they want to be in PBS and PTV4, they are expecting something to gain. “My expectations are to know more about the reality of our field and to be more grinded for the better outcome, eagerly enthusiastic to face the real world and government”, Anna said.

Alyssa on the other hand is expecting to see what happens behind the camera, “and to experience first hand how media practitioners serve our country and the people. And also I want to have fun while learning”, she said.

Since the internship will be in Quezon City, most of the students have decided to rent a house there so it will not be hard for them to commute everyday. “We looked for various options for the apartment that we'll be staying in and also made a few computations on how much we'll be spending for the whole training”, Alyssa said.

Aside from the preparation of finding and making her boarding house to be comfortable for her to stay, Anna did an extra preparation, “[I am] preparing my physical, mental and emotional for the stresses that I'm about to face”, she said.

Summer internship or internship in general will be helpful for every students to practice their learning from school to the real world. And having an internship in a legitimate company like PTV4 and PBS is a great opportunity that should not be missed even if you are eager to have a summer vacation.

Open sila everyday from 4:00pm to 1:00am.

Hehe. Sulit dito ang 90 pesos mo dahil ang sarap niya.
